Project Description
During my tenure as Lead Designer at Tözün Interior Design Studio, I was involved in the project of converting or designing DoubleTree by Hilton Tuzla in 2013. This was one of the early Hilton-branded projects for Tözün Studio, and it carried both symbolic and technical significance.
Because the hotel is in close proximity to the Tuzla shipyards, many of the guests are engineers, executives, or professionals connected to maritime and industrial operations. Thus, the design had to balance comfort, functionality, and durability, catering to business travelers who require efficient layouts, sound insulation, and practical room amenities.
The lobby, bar, and restaurant areas were conceived to give both a welcoming impression and a professional ambience, with design lines that read as elegant but resilient. Meeting rooms were planned to serve corporate gatherings, minor conferences, and workshops, with flexible layouts and audio-visual infrastructure in mind. The spa and wellness sections were designed to offer relaxation even in a busy industrial district, leveraging the hotel's unique advantage: access to thermal water. The shared pool infrastructure with the older Tuzla Thermal Hotel added a unique wellness dimension to the guest offer.
Overall, the project’s challenge was in merging luxury hotel standards with an industrial location, while ensuring that each architectural and interior detail held up under frequent use and met the expectations of Hilton brand quality. The result is a hotel that supports both work and respite, serving as a comfortable base for professionals in Istanbul’s industrial sector.
