Project Description

Completed in 2019, DoubleTree by Hilton Afyonkarahisar stands out as one of the city’s most prestigious hospitality projects. The entire interior design, construction drawings, and project supervision were carried out by Tözün Interior Design Studio.

During my tenure at Tözün Interior Design Studio between 2007–2022, I took an active role in this project as the Lead Designer. I was responsible for developing modern and comfort-oriented design solutions for the restaurant, bar, ballroom, meeting rooms, standard guest rooms, and the luxurious presidential suite.

The design reflects Hilton’s international standards while blending the cultural essence of Afyonkarahisar with a contemporary approach, creating an elevated guest experience.

Hotel design has become one of the most dynamic fields in contemporary interior architecture, where global hospitality brands seek to merge functionality, comfort, and cultural identity. In recent years, Hilton Hotels has set a benchmark by delivering projects that not only meet international standards but also reflect the local character of the cities in which they are built. The DoubleTree by Hilton Afyonkarahisar project is a strong example of this approach, where modern interior solutions are integrated with the cultural and geographical essence of Turkey’s Aegean region.

Afyonkarahisar, historically known as a crossroads of civilizations, has always been a destination that blends tradition with modern life. With its thermal resources, historical monuments, and growing tourism potential, the city has become increasingly attractive for international hotel investments. Designing a hotel in such a location requires sensitivity to cultural references while maintaining the luxurious standards expected from a global brand like Hilton. This balance was a guiding principle throughout the design of DoubleTree by Hilton Afyonkarahisar.

The interior design concept emphasizes spacious and inviting public areas such as the restaurant, bar, and ballroom, ensuring that guests can experience both comfort and a sense of place. Guest rooms and the presidential suite were designed with attention to detail, using natural materials, warm tones, and contemporary furniture selections. These elements reflect modern hotel design trends, where functionality is enhanced by aesthetic value. Lighting design, circulation flow, and the choice of textures were carefully considered to create an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and welcoming.

Beyond aesthetics, hotel design today must also respond to operational efficiency and guest satisfaction. Spaces such as meeting rooms and ballrooms are not only visually appealing but also optimized for flexibility and acoustic performance, addressing the diverse needs of business and leisure travelers. The DoubleTree by Hilton Afyonkarahisar successfully integrates these functional aspects with a refined design language, contributing to the city’s reputation as a growing hub for high-quality hospitality experiences.

Another important aspect of hotel design is sustainability. Modern guests are increasingly aware of eco-friendly practices, and hotel operators are expected to integrate them into their properties. The design approach for DoubleTree by Hilton Afyonkarahisar took this into account by considering energy-efficient lighting, durable materials, and long-lasting furniture solutions. Such choices not only enhance the guest experience but also reduce long-term operational costs, which is essential in today’s competitive hospitality industry.

By combining international standards with local identity, this project demonstrates how thoughtful interior design can enhance both brand value and guest experience. As Afyonkarahisar continues to develop as a tourism and business destination, hotels like DoubleTree by Hilton serve as architectural and cultural landmarks, shaping the city’s future as a center for luxury accommodation in Turkey. This project highlights how the discipline of interior design can go beyond aesthetics to create spaces that embody cultural richness, operational excellence, and long-lasting value for both the brand and its guests.
