A Special Milestone in My Career
As the first hotel of Marriott International’s prestigious Westin brand in Turkey, The Westin Istanbul Nisantasi is an elite hospitality project located in the newly built Lotus Istanbul complex. However, the significance of this project in my personal portfolio goes far beyond its architectural details; it holds a profound emotional and professional meaning.
This project marks my final work at Hande Tözün Design Studio, where I dedicated 15 years of my career. Having walked through their doors as an intern, I progressed through every stage to eventually become a Senior Designer. Everything I know today about luxury hotel design, concept development, and spatial planning, I owe to my mentor and master, Interior Architect Hande Tözün. The Westin Nisantasi is, in a way, the crowning achievement of this 15-year master-apprentice relationship and our shared culture of creation.
From Concept to Site Execution
The design process of the project was carried out with meticulous attention to detail. In 2022, when the concept design phase was approximately 90% complete, I took a new path in my career and transferred to Cita Design Studio as “Head of Design” to focus on international cruise ship interiors. Nevertheless, my connection to this special project and to Mrs. Tözün never faded. It was a great professional honor to accompany her during the challenging implementation phases when the design transitioned from paper to reality, as well as during the on-site visits after the hotel opened its doors to guests.
